B-Game Schedule
This past week students from PreK3-4 worked in library on a community service project for our local veterans. Students made each veteran a bag of snowman soups to enjoy on a cold winter day (hot chocolate, a candy cane, two Hershey kisses, and a scoop of marshmallows). While the Preschool students were working to support our veterans, the rest of the elementary was working on a service project for the elderly in our community. The K-2nd grade students made gift bags and the 3rd-6th grade students made ornaments gifts. The elementary STUCO students spent Wednesday morning making deliveries and singing carols at local nursing homes in Emporia

Over the last two weeks 5th and 6th grade library students have been reading about Colonel Halverson, The Candy Bomber, who started dropping candy to the children of Berlin shortly after WWII. The people of Berlin were being blockaded by Soviet Union and the US began dropping food to them to help them survive. Col. Halverson wanted to do something for the children who were stuck in a very bad situation but were just like the children of America. Using his candy rations and those of his fellow military men they used napkins and dropped the parachutes from their airplanes to the children hoping to spread joy. Using the book Christmas From Heaven the students were inspired to creat “candy bombs” parachutes made from napkins, just as they were used in WWII. The parachutes were launched from the roof of the elementary school and the students chased them down just as the children of Berlin chased down the candy bombs from the heavens in the late 1940’s.

Junior High games for Thursday will be played in the new/secondary gym starting with 1/2 JV girls, followed by 1/2 JV boys, followed by Varsity girls, followed by Varsity boys. * The roof of the gym is nearing completion, and the gym floor is a little uneven in places. We are working to remedy that. As a precaution, we are choosing not to use that gym so no one gets hurt. Thank you for your understanding. Ms. Tammy Baird.
