MHS juniors took a trip to Lawrence to visit KU today!

Due to weather, the Pride Run is being moved to the auditorium of the high school at 5:45pm. Please spread the word!

SAFE stands for Seat belts Are for Everyone, and the Madison High School SAFE team exists to promote seat belt usage and promote safe driving. When we performed our Fall baseline survey, Madison junior senior high students, their parents, and staff were distracted 5% of the time. That means that they were either on their phones or otherwise distracted while they were driving. In terms of seatbelt usage, our drivers and passengers wore their seat belts 88.4% of the time. Now, while this is just above the average for the state of Kansas, this is far below the national average. When looking at 2022 statistics, Kansas ranks 42 out 51 states (including the District of Columbia). That means that Kansas was in the 18th percentile nationally for seatbelt usage. We hope that educational opportunities like this can help in getting you to buckle up and put your phone down. On Wednesday, students were joined by Sergeant and Deputy Cordell. They shared stories about buckling up, driving while intoxicated and had students do activities while wearing the drunk goggles. Thank you to the Greenwood County Sheriff's Office for their time in speaking with our students!

Monday Oct. 23rd, Madison’s Showchoir and Junior High Choir attended Butler Community College’s Showchoir Showcase. This was a fun filled day where our students performed & received feedback from a guest clinician as well as observe 12 other schools ranging up to 6A perform. In addition they saw shows from Butler’s collegiate Chamber Choir, Pop Accappella group, & their showchoir, The Headliners.
Some highlights from the day include:
⁃ A standing Ovation for our group!
⁃ Lots of cheers for our Junior High (the only Jr. High that attended)
⁃ Cohen Luthi won a “Worm” Race
⁃ Brayden Grimmitt took a prize for his back flip
⁃ Ben Thompson won out in a Beat Boxing competition
An amazing opportunity for our students to experience a day of Fine Arts in such a fun and positive environment!

Mark your calendars and come out for our MES costume parade downtown! We'd love to see you there.

Today was a day of who wanted it more. Lily went in ranked 15th and only top 10 make it to state. Well Madison’s Lily Hudson wanted it, because for the 3rd year in a row she’s going to STATE!!! She placed 9th with a time of 22:45, her best time of the season. She also ran her first mile in a 6:47, which is her fastest mile ever in a race. This goes to show that when you come in mentally prepared, you can do anything. Way to go Lily!

A few more community service pics.

Madison junior high and high school participated in a fall community service day. Projects included repainting parking spots, fire hydrants, window cleaning, raking walnuts, clean up around the FFA building, wiping down all of the pictures in the school and many more! This is just one way we can say thank you to a community that is so supportive of us!

Our 1st and 2nd-grade students have been working on a shared class project over The Good Egg book. This book is a great introduction to learning about what makes each of us unique and amazing. It also explores healthy ways to deal with stress. Students worked on following oral directions as they completed directed drawings of their eggs. They also shared ways that help from getting ‘scrambled’ or stressed out. This project ties literacy in with art, and Social Emotional Learning. Students always enjoy learning together with other grade levels. Great work 1st and 2nd grade!

Madison Jr/Sr High School will be having a community service day the afternoon of October 19th.
