Madison Elementary celebrated Read Across America Week right before taking off for spring break. Each day, the students did a different reading activity school-wide. On Monday, teachers traded classrooms to read some of their favorite books and complete activities. On Tuesday, students went outside to enjoy the great outdoors while reading books. On Wednesday, each student received a finger flashlight for reading in the dark. Most students wore PJs to school on Thursday for comfy, cozy reading time, bringing our week to a close.
An activity that lasted throughout the week was The Masked Reader. Each day, students listened to a mystery reader disguised by a picture filter and voice changer. Before listening to the story, they were given clues as to who the reader might be and knew that it was someone who works in our building. The final reveal of The Masked Reader was revealed in this video, along with pictures of the different activities from throughout the week.
Lastly, posted outside of the library was an interactive bulletin board with every staff member's picture and pictures of our favorite books. Students could move the books around on the bulletin board throughout the week trying to guess our staff's favorite childhood books. Again, answers were revealed in our end-of-the-week video.
Enjoy and keep reading!!

On Monday, March 4th, Madison and Hamilton students participated in Madison's annual career fair. Students could sit in and listen to three different career sessions and ended the day with the Keynote speaker, Paul Dean. Paul is a Madison alumni, Mayor of Madison and a local attorney who shared about his time at Madison, the University of Kansas, his career, and his community involvement.
There were numerous alumni and visitors represented to discus various career choices for our students. We want to thank all of those who took time out of their busy schedules to visit with our students about their careers. It is greatly appreciated!

In celebration of Youth Art Month, the Kansas Art Education Association has a yearly Kansas Youth Art Month exhibit on display at the Topeka Shawnee County Public Library from February 27th to March 23rd.
The first Youth Art Month celebration was started in 1969 by The Council for Art Education to advocate for visual art education. The event emphasized the value of students participating in the visual arts. Youth Art Month is celebrated across the nation with art contests, exhibits, and special activities.
There will also be a "People's Choice" voting to the exhibit, all student art included in the YAM exhibit are eligible for awards!
Every art teacher in Kansas can submit ONE student's artwork from each school or level that they teach at into the Youth Art Month Exhibit. KAEA members can additionally submit that same piece into the BLICK Youth Art Month Competition!
The Celebration/Reception will be held in the Topeka Shawnee County Public Library Saturday, March 23rd, 2024 from 1-2:30 PM. There will be time for guests to view the artwork, a guest speaker, recognition of students, activities, sale of YAM merchandise and light refreshments. The library will open at 9:00—YAM activities will be set up by 11:30.
Judy Luthi is one of Madison’s finest artists; she received three medals this year at LCL. She has been chosen as one of the Youth Art Month Featured Artists.
