Willie Derryberry has signed a letter of intent to run track for Emporia State University for the upcoming school year.  He has been recruited as a decathlete.  A decathlon is comprised of ten events: the 100, 400, mile, high hurdles, pole vault, javelin, shot put, discus, long jump and high jump.  ESU has offered two thousand dollars and track equipment as part of the scholarship.

MHS track coach Fred McClain said, "After coaching track and field for over 40 years, I would have to put Willie in a category with 5 or 6 other kids as truly being one of the top athletes I've had a chance to work with.  I think the decathlon will be a good fit for Willie and it will sure keep him busy! I want to wish him the best, from one Hornet to another."

From all of us at USD 386, congratulations Willie!  Stingers up!
