Superintendent's Corner

The 2014-2015 school year is underway!  I would like to compliment our staff and students for getting back into the routine so quickly and efficiently.  We are very fortunate at Madison to have a high participation rate in extracurricular activities.  Research has shown that students who participate in extracurricular activities perform at a higher level in the classroom.  In addition to a stronger academic performance, students increase their skill level in the areas of responsibility, respect for others, handling adversity, and time management.  If you are not a sports fan, there are still several opportunities for you to get involved in extracurricular activities.  These include but are not limited to:  Ag Club, Vocal Music, Band, Quiz Bowl, Debate, Forensics, etc.

The Kansas State High School Activities Association recognizes high school students and their teams for their work in the classroom as well as in the athletic arena.  USD #386 Madison-Virgil teams were recently recognized for their efforts in the classroom this past spring.  The following teams were recognized with the Distinguished Scholastic Award from the KSHSAA.  Distinguished Scholars have an average team GPA of 3.25 – 4.0.  Please help me in congratulating these student athletes on their outstanding accomplishments.  The USD #386 winners along with their team GPA are listed below:

High School Girls Basketball 3.72

High School Boys Basketball 3.29

High School Vocal Music 3.57

High School Band 3.68

Scholars Bowl 3.68

Student Council 3.68

High School Boys Track and Field 3.35

High School Girls Track and Field 3.62

High School Cheerleading 3.90

I would encourage you to visit our school website at www.usd386.net.  Mrs. Helm and the student website team have done a tremendous job designing and updating the website.  I look forward to working with each of you throughout the school year.  Please do not hesitate to contact me at rbradbury@usd386.net or 620-437-2909 with any questions or concerns.  IT IS A GREAT DAY TO BE A BULLDOG!
