Our district was selected to make several presentations at the Kansas State Department of Education Annual Conference which took place this past week. This conference brings educators from across the state to learn about best practices in education. Our district will presented in the following areas:

o Our staff presented on “Meeting the Needs of the Whole Child in a Small Town.” This presentation highlighted our community partnerships such as the health clinic, mental health services, OPAA, etc. We also highlighted our district’s areas of focus, district initiatives and programs in the areas of academics, physical, social emotional, and civic engagement.

o Our staff also presented on “Kindergarten Readiness, Thinking Outside the Box.” The presentation focused on family engagement and how small districts can meet the needs of early learning. This included our daycare and 3 and 4year-old PreK program.

o Additionally, our district was a Showcase District for Early Learning Programs. We will focus on showcasing the daycare, PreK3, PreK4, and kindergarten and how we are meeting the Kindergarten Readiness Initiative from the state. One district was chosen to represent each KSDE Outcome (Individual Plans of Study, Kindergarten Readiness, etc.) We were the only small district in the state selected as a Showcase District.

o Our staff participated in a leadership panel for early learning. The panel discussed how we address early learning in our communities.

USD 386 staff did a great job presenting to educators from across the state. Congratulations on a job well done!
