20th Sonia Kovalevesky Mathematics Day at ESU

On Thursday, February 13th, two Madison High School students attended the 20th Sonia Kovalevesky Mathematics Day at Emporia State University.

This event "is named in honor of the first prominent woman mathematician, Sonia Kovalevsky, to earn a doctorate in mathematics.

The program seeks to target females in their junior year that are outstanding mathematics students in order to encourage them to continue their mathematics education. 

Madison's participants, Katie and Kortnie, are pictured (left) with Dr. Marvin Harrell and Dr. Betsy Yanik.  Doctors Harrell and Yanik have been in charge of this program for twenty years.
